The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) Specialization

in Clinical Psychology within the Master of Arts Program, Antioch University Los Angeles

Mission Statement

A pioneer in social justice for over 150 years, Antioch University has launched the nation's first graduate psychology specialization devoted to clinical psychology for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT). The aim is to educate future therapists to provide competent, sensitive, skilled and affirmative therapy to LGBT clients, and to become leaders in the LGBT counseling communities through classes, clinical training and educational/cultural activities and partnerships with community mental health leaders and organizations. Through a 17-unit curriculum that supplements the Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) program, the specialization strengthens the competency, clinical skills and sensitivity of students to issues of LGBT pride, dignity, personal growth, diversity, oppression, self-esteem, cultural awareness, and spirituality and in so doing promoting the drive towards LGBT social justice, activism, liberation and self-actualization.
